Reference Books 

Chronicle of the World.  New York:  DK, 1996.  REF D 11 .C56 1996.  This book covers historical events chronologically from 3.5 million years BC to the present day.

Chronology of World History. Santa Barbara:  ABC-CLIO, 1999.  REF D 11 .M39 1999.  Chronologically arranged into four main categories and 25 sub categories, this resource provides a detailed, comprehensive account of history.

History of the Ancient & Medieval World.  New York:  Cavendish, c1996. REF D 117 .H57 1996.  Each volume is arranged chronologically by era and provides pictures, maps, detailed explanations, and a useful index.

The Hutchinson Dictionary of World History. (all campuses) Santa Barbara:  ABC-CLIO, c1993. REF D 9 .H87 1993.

Great Thinkers of the Western World.  New York:  Harper Collins, c1992.  REF B 72 .G74 1992.  This book contains major ideas and classic works of more than 100 Western philosophers, physical and social scientists, psychologists, religious writers, and theologians.

Penguin Encyclopedia of Classical Civilizations.  New York:  Viking, c1993. REF CB 9 .P46 1993.  This resource, arranged by geographic area, covers the period between 550 BC to 600 AD.  Featured are Greece, Rome, the Hellenstic kingdoms, Persia, India, and China.

The Story of Civilization.  Durant, Will and Ariel.  New York:  Simon and Schuster. CB 53 .D85.  This is an 11-volume comprehensive survey of mankind and is considered a classic for the study of civilization.[located in stacks]

The Development of Western Civilization -  ( http://history.evansville.net/index.html) This site was created by Nancy B. Mautz for the benefit of her ACE  World Studies, Art History and World Civilization students at the University of Evansville.  Contains many useful Western Civilization links.

History News Service (http://www.h-net.org/~hns/index.html) - articles and resources on topics in global history from professional historians.

Western Civilization Chronology (http://campus.northpark.edu/history/WebChron/WestCiv/WestCiv.html) - series of hyperlinked chronologies developed by the History Department of North Park University for use in survey history courses.
